Design award for Lilje silver cutlery

The Lilje silver cutlery series is a highly valued asset in many a Norwegian household. The series is produced just behind Bryggen in Bergen, at Norway's oldest gold and silver workshop, Arven. Now the series has won the Klassikerprisen 2022.

- What an honor! We are both proud and humbled to receive this award. I think it shows that good design endures through the ages and competes well in today's market against newer products and designs, exults Lise Redfern, managing director of Arven.

She says that Lilje was designed by Trygve Eriksen for Theodor Olsen's Sølvvarefabrikk in 1939. The pattern is inspired by the lily flower.

- The lily pattern is a classic among Norwegian silver cutlery, and is a bestseller. The series has a total of 38 different cutlery parts, including 12 different spoons! The lily pattern has always been popular with Norwegians. We believe it is the classic elegance and timelessness that make the pattern a winner in generation after generation, says Redfern.

"The classic Lily becomes a reminder of quality and long craft traditions, and the product practically binds generations together. The simple, elegant shape was typical of 1930s functionalism, and the silver cutlery has been a bestseller for several decades. And what could be better than acquiring something that the next generation is happy to inherit and build on," says the jury's verdict.
